  • Question for the board

In light of recent events, and considering how our team name seems to rightly or wrongly offend some people, should Atlanta get ahead of the curve and change the team name?

Personally, and I have some Native American heritage, I have always viewed "Braves" as an honorary term for Native American warriors. However, we all know it offends some people and we seem to take a black eye every year around playoff time. So, now, with so many corporations trying to distance themselves from anything considered racially insensitive is it in our best longterm interest to bite the bullet and change our brand? I feel it is inevitable, and better to do it now unforced, before a chop breaks out on national TV in the playoffs and we take the yearly brow beating.

I think the Atlanta Hammers would be perfect. Pays homage to the greatest Brave, who also happens to be a African American. I also think it would be very cool to do this while Hank is still living. He is getting up there in years.

    Thoughts?

Today's labels considered as insensitive were anything but insensitive a few years ago. Our sensitivities have become absurd. What's tomorrow's outrage? The thought and word police are always hard at work...

Any good change our country has ever attempted required dragging folks along kicking and screaming, who aren't at all affected by the change, to at least give it a try..Then 20 years later they finally accept it, and also consider it good..Being a little more sensitive to systemic racism doesn't hurt anyone, and will help someone..

I would say that given the high tensions and dwindling patience of the majority in this country, it would be the wrong time to broach the subject. This team needs its fans and their money if it hopes to field a championship team.

I dont believe our team name is offensive. It also doesn't bother me if they decide to change it. The only issue I have ever had is the team over reacting to a sound bite from a player.

Yep. Let the offended parties come forward and press the case rather than a bunch of virtue signaling SJWs trying to take up the fight on behalf of.

I swear the left is on a fascist run to sweep over the country and burn the constitution. 2020 is only halfway in the books.

I think you don't know what fascist means..Its pretty much the direct opposite of the left..

Fascism definition..."a form of political practice distinctive to the 20th century that arouses popular enthusiasm by sophisticated propaganda techniques for an anti-liberal, anti-socialist, violently exclusionary, expansionist nationalist agenda."

As the offended parties, they have been coming forward since the early 90s..Any October playoff series has been a wash, rinse, repeat..The Braves have publicly met with the offended parties several times..

I'm not strongly for or against a change, but I do feel it's inevitable. And if I'm right, it's better to do it unforced than with a gun to your head..

Thankful that I have company with this perspective. So damn tired of being lectured to with regards to how I eat, speak, drink, speak, breath, shit. How about just fuck off? Go micromanage your own thought bubble. Hilariously ironic that the first thing Chaz/Chop/Me did in Seattle was erect border walls and organize a police force as well as implementing their own ICE patrols.

It's not Chaz. It's not Chop. It should simply be "Me". As in, hey look at...
